HADDENHAM

Haddenham is the largest of the villages we cover — 5,725 people (2021 census) — and one of the most distinctive. Much of the historic centre sits within a conservation area of over 110 listed buildings, many built from witchert, a traditional local mix of clay and straw. The village was once known for breeding Aylesbury ducks on its ponds, earning it the old nickname "silly Haddenham". It has two pubs (the Kings Head and the Rising Sun), a Co-op, post office, library, butcher and baker.

Commuting: Haddenham has its own railway station, Haddenham & Thame Parkway, opened in 1906, with direct trains to Oxford and London Marylebone. The X20/120 bus runs through the village between Aylesbury, Thame and Oxford, and the A418 gives direct road access to the M40 near Thame. A dedicated walking and cycling path to Thame, the Haddenham-Thame Greenway, has been approved and is in planning.

Schools: Three primaries serve the village — Haddenham St Mary's CE School (rated "Outstanding" by Ofsted), Haddenham Community Infant School and Haddenham Junior School (both rated "Good").
