DINTON

Dinton is a village of 809 people (2011 census, parish of Dinton with Ford and Upton), on the old turnpike road between Aylesbury and Thame. Its best-known landmark is Dinton Castle, an octagonal folly built in 1769 by Sir John Vanhattem, now a Grade II listed ruin. Next to the parish church stands Dinton Hall; local legend links the village to John Biggs, the "Dinton Hermit", supposedly connected to the execution of Charles I — his shoe is preserved in Oxford's Ashmolean Museum. The village has a pub, a village hall used for quizzes and a cricket club.

Commuting: a short drive to Haddenham & Thame Parkway station, with trains to London Marylebone in under 40 minutes; around 5 miles to Aylesbury.

Schools: Dinton has its own CE junior school, with the linked upper school site in nearby Cuddington.
